The Sixth Annual
Success Through Scholarship
Awards Program,
2007-08

The Success through Scholarship Educational Fund at DePaul University's School of Accountancy and MIS represents the culmination of the efforts of prominent DePaul friends and alumni who envisioned this permanent educational resource and provided its initial and sustaining funding: Ernst & Young Alumni Professor Belverd E. Needles, University Trustee William B. Snow, University Lifetime Trustee Ernest R. Wish, and Ledger & Quill Board member Gerald A. Beeson. Major funding partners in the scholarship include members of the School of Accountancy alumni organization Ledger & Quill, the Illinois CPA Society and the CPA Endowment Fund of Illinois, and DePaul University.

The Success through Scholarship Educational Fund at DePaul offers scholarships of up to $3000 (renewable one time for junior-year applicants) to outstanding students in the School of Accountancy and Management Information Systems.

Eligibility:
Current accounting/accounting intended majors completing their sophomore (second) year and entering the junior (third) year of the accounting program in 2008--09.

Current declared accounting majors completing their junior (third) year and entering the senior (fourth) year of the accounting curriculum in 2008--09.

Students working to complete the 150-hour requirement within the "traditional" four undergraduate years, and who may not fit the traditional "junior" or "senior" categories, are encouraged to apply. Credit standing may be used in place of calendar year.

Certain exclusions apply: students receiving full-tuition scholarships, or students for whom the award would provide funds in excess of tuition, are not eligible. Students holding or expecting to hold internships or employment which does or will provide tuition payment or tuition reimbursement are also not eligible.

Timeframe:
Awards will be announced in advance of the following academic year. Award funds will be applied to the awardees' student tuition accounts the following academic year, and awards may be flexibly applied.

Criteria:
Award criteria taken into consideration by the Selection Committee include academic performance and standing, university or community service, work experience, response to narrative sections of the application, quality of academic planning, and financial need.

Submissions:
Completed application, current resume, letter(s) of recommendation (optional).

"The success of any profession depends on the quality of its people. When we encourage the most capable students to enter our profession, we will be successful."
Ernst R. Wish, Lifetime Trustee, DePaul University
