Hello, and welcome to Ledger & Quill—the alumni and friends support organization of the School of Accountancy and MIS of DePaul University. I am pleased and honored to serve as L&Q’s 18th president, and am committed to not only maintaining our already-strong support of the School’s students and faculty, but to increasing and strengthening that support. By enhancing a DePaul accounting education, L&Q enhances the prestige, recognition, and value of your DePaul accounting degree.
But first, I'd like to extend my personal invitation to every member, and every alum, to attend this year's annual Ledger & Quill Fall Luncheon, 11:30am, Wednesday, November 14, in the beautiful Empire Room of the Palmer House Hilton. More information and registration is a click away. The Fall Luncheon is our annual celebration of DePaul--I hope to see you there!
Secondly, I’d like to further invite every visiting alum to join us in this great effort, and become a member of one of the largest accounting networks in Chicago. The more we are, the stronger we are.
Second, in looking back on the fine year produced by my predecessor, David Berek, you can get a good sense of who we are and what we do:
- our successful and well-attended 32nd annual Fall Luncheon,
- our $230,000 in 2007-08 scholarships and awards--yet another new record in terms of dollars and number of students supported,
- the continued growth of our scholarship endowments, especially the Success Through Scholarship and Robert M. Peters funds,
- increasing the number of L&Q members contributing at the President's Club level--those we deem "DePaul's Finest,"
- Our second annual (and very nearly over-subscribed) Ledger & Quill Spring Reception-on-the-Lake. (If you missed this you missed quite a party.)
And we have extra strengths this year, with two newly-created positions: Vice President Jenny Babiak (Deloitte) and Past President David Berek (Credit Suisse). Both are experienced L&Q officers and True Blue.
Working with School Director and KPMG Alumni Professor Kevin Stevens, Commerce Dean Ray Whittington, the Executive Committee and Board of L&Q, we can look forward to another exciting and successful year—another year in which member loyalty and dedication to DePaul will enable us to reach higher goals still.
