    BK's, L&Q's Burns Recognized by ICPAS

    Ledger & Quill Board member Genevieve Burns, partner with Blackman Kallick Bartelstein, was presented a 2005 Distinguished Service Award by the Illinois CPA Society at the annual State of the Profession & Leadership Conference, Monday, May 9, 2005.

    A long-time L&Q member, in addition to Board service Gen is also a member of the DePaul President's Club, and is a major contributor to the Success Through Scholarship Fund.

    Burns was presented the award for her distinguished work on the Society's Nonprofit Organizations Committee, which encourages excellence in the management of nonprofit groups, and provides guidance, advice and professional sevices to Chicago area service organizations.


    James Patterson NIRI-Chicago Top CFO

          

    DePaul alum and L&Q member James J. Patterson, senior vice-president and CFO of Schawk, Inc., has been named Chicago CFO of the Year by the Chicago chapter of the National Investor Relations Institute.

    Des Plaines-based Schawk, Inc., is a world leader in strategic brand-imaging solutions, providing digital imaging graphic services to the consumer products packaging, advertsing and promotional markets.

    The award, co-sponsored by the Kellogg School of Management of Northwestern University, recognizes outstanding development, execution and performance in investor relations.

    Bill Razzino Appointed at Tribune Company

    Bill Razzino has been named vice president/finance for Tribune Interactive and Classified, a division of Tribune Company. He will oversee the finance function for the organization, as well as human resources.

    With more than 50 websites overall, Tribune Interactive and Classified ranks among the nation's leading news and information networks, attracting more than 14 million unique visitors per month.

    Previously controller at Tribune Interactive and Classified, Bill has also managed accounting and financial operations at Leo Burnett USA and CoolSavings.com. After his DePaul graduation, he started out with PricewaterhouseCoopers.


    New Kellstadt Center Formed

    L&Q members Mark L. Frigo, Eichenbaum Foundation Professor of Strategy and Leadership, and Joel Litman, Credit Suisse First Boston and L&Q Board member,along with Scholl Chair of Finance Keith Howe, have established the Center for Strategy, Execution and Valuation at the Kellstadt Graduate School of Business at DePaul.

    Needles Named to new Professorship

    Ernst & Young has named School of Accountancy Professor Belverd E. Needles to the newly-established Ernst & Young Professorship in the School.

    The professorship is the School's sixth, reflecting DePaul's strong support in the accounting and business community in Chicago.

    D&T National Volunteer Week Names
    L&Q Member Patino

    School alumna Patricia Patino, Tax Associate in International Assignment Services with the Chicago office of Deloitte & Touche, has been featured as THE Chicago Volunteer in D&T's National Volunteer Week recognitions. Patty was singled out for her volunteer work with Chicago's Metro Achievement Center for Girls, which provides programs to assist disadvantaged youngsters in their academic and personal development--a natural outlet for Vincentian energies.

    While at DePaul, Patti served as a MAHA officer, and as president 2000-01. She also was a participant in Deloitte & Touche's Minority Scholarship/Internship Program.

    Patti has been involved with the Metro Achievement Program since her sixth grade, and credits the program and its volunteers with much of her achievement. And she wants to pay back: "I truly beieve that nothing is more fulfilling than being able to help your community."


    Needles Chairs ICPAS Board

    Belverd E. Needles, Ernst & Young Professor of Accountancy in the School, serves as Chairperson of the Board of the Illinois CPA Society, 2003-04. Over the years Prof. Needles has served the Society in most major capacities, and was Senior Vice Chair 2002-03. He is also a member of the Founders' Council and a Director of the CPA Endowment Fund of Illinois.


    Stoia Family Hat Trick

    The Stoia Family of Hinsdale joins a select (but not exclusive) circle with three family members having studied or now studying at the School.
    Pictured above are (l to r) James (Strobel '07, L&Q scholarship), Valerie (Strobel '06, Goss scholarship) and Dennis (COM' 02).

    Dennis, who served as Accounting Club president, is now with the Chicago office of Ernst & Young, and a very recent L&Q member. He is very active in E&Y support of Ledger & Quill and DePaul, and will speak, representing young alumni (and future "DePaul's Finest"), at the firm's October 2 Matching Gift Kick-Off.

    (And congratulations to the parents, Lazar and Lidia Stoia, for doing such a great job, too!)
