Giving Opportunities

Ledger & Quill Giving Opportunities

The needs faced by the School of Accountancy and MIS reflect those of DePaul and higher education in general: scholarship support to attract and retain top students, professorships to attract and retain top faculty, financial support to increase endowments, and general support for the School, its students and student groups, and faculty research activities.

Since 1972, Ledger & Quill members have worked to meet these needs, and have had great success: L&Q provides DePaul an unmatched scope and level of support, contributing significantly and directly to the goals of the university's long-range plan, "Vision twenty12."

While contributions to Ledger & Quill are important to maintain its own scholarship, professorship, and student support programs (as well as meet its own organizational and membership expenses--L&Q receives no university funds), there are several other worthy giving opportunities you may consider, listed below. To make a contribution to ANY School of Accountancy and MIS fund, visit the university's Advancement website at http://alumni.depaul.edu/give/index.aspx.

Success Awardees dinner 4-07 Success Through Scholarship Endowment: Having rapidly attained its status as the largest of the School's scholarship funds, the Success Through Scholarship Endowment provides significant and renewable scholarship support for deserving upper-level accounting students. Established in 2000 by Ernst & Young Alumni Professor Belverd E. Needles, University Trustee William B. Snow, and Lifetime Trustee (and inaugural L&Q president) Ernest R. Wish, "Success," as it is known, partners with the Illinois CPA Society and the CPA Endowment Fund of Illinois to encourage and support superior students entering the profession.

Recently, the Success Through Scholarship effort has been joined by prominent alumni Gerald A. & Jennifer Beeson, John J. & Kathleen  A. Vitanovec, and Helen Pekny, who have established Success Scholarships. Success also benefits from generous matching programs from University President Dennis Holtschneider, C.M., and Ledger & Quill.

Strobel is credited with establishing the foundations of what was soon to become the School of Accountancy, and initiated the accounting honors program, the MST program, our chapter of Beta Alpha Psi . . . and, with help from 19 alumni, Ledger & Quill. Strobel Scholarships have been awarded to superior accounting students continuously since 1982.
