Undergraduate Programs

Accountancy

The Accountancy program provides students with the conceptual and technical foundations of accounting, the principles and procedures of practice (including financial and management accounting, taxes, information systems, auditing and business law), and the organization of the profession, professional standards and ethics. Accountancy can also be taken along with other business disciplines such as E-Business, Economics, Finance, Management, Marketing, Management Information Systems, and Real Estate. The program is designed to provide students with the technical accounting knowledge necessary to obtain a relevant entry level accounting position upon graduation; the ability to critically analyze information, make decisions, and solve problems; business writing and oral communication skills; exposure to the technical knowledge required to pass the Certified Public Accountant Examination (CPA Exam).

Strobel Scholars (Accountancy Honors)

Graduates of DePaul University's Strobel Honors Program, Strobel Scholars will be the business leaders of the twenty-first century. Strobel Scholars are the best new business professionals entering the market. They are young business men and women with a technical specialty in accounting, a firm foundation in all business related disciplines, superior analytical and communication skills, and a broad-based education in liberal arts and sciences. Strobel Scholars commit to an academic program which combines participation in campus activities, course work and interaction with the business community. DePaul commits to provide a program which fosters the development of well educated business leaders. The program features small class size, a committed faculty and an environment characterized by personalism and group rapport. The Strobel Honors Program selects students with superior academic achievement and records of extra-curricular activities. The program provides them with a liberal arts foundation, then exposes them to a quality business education coupled with extensive exposure to the business community and the accounting profession.

Management Information Systems

The undergraduate program in Management Information Systems provides College of Commerce students opportunities to major or minor in Management Information Systems. The program is intended for undergraduate commerce students who plan to pursue careers as information systems professionals. The major in MIS prepares students to pursue careers as business analyst, systems analysts, database administrator, project manager, network administration, knowledge developer, and Chief Information Officer. This program is intended for undergraduate business students who plan to start their career as information systems professionals in either information technology producing industries or with heavy users of such technologies. A minor in MIS prepares students to function as liaisons representing their department or business function in information systems projects.

E-Business

This program is intended for undergraduate business students who plan to start their career as e-business professionals in either information technology producing industries or with the heavy users of such technologies. Students will acquire a broad understanding of internet technologies and their utilization in private and governmental organizations, an in-depth understanding of how to develop web-based applications, a thorough understanding of system requirements elicitation, analysis, documentation, validation and management Ability to work with users and builders of e-business technology, an understanding of software project management, the ability to integrate technical knowledge and understanding of business operations, and experience working on team projects
