Five-Year Accountancy Program

The Five-Year Accountancy Program allows majors to complete a bachelor’s degree and a Master of Accountancy (MACC) degree in five years. The graduate degree provides students with advanced skills in accounting in areas of high demand: internal audit, forensic accounting and accounting information systems.

  • Take three graduate classes during senior year, to count toward the major and the graduate degree

  • Finish nine graduate classes during a fifth year to complete the Master of Accountancy

  • Fulfill the extra hours needed to sit for the CPA exam

  • Provides Double Demon Scholarship of 25 percent off graduate tuition

  • Does not require GMAT, essays, or letters of recommendation for admission

Admission Requirements

Current DePaul accountancy majors who meet the following criteria may apply to this program:

  • Junior standing or higher (at least 88 credits)
  • Minimum overall GPA of 3.2
  • Minimum accounting GPA of 3.0

Admission to the five year program does not require the GMAT, essays or letters of recommendation. We recommend students submit their application form when enrolled in ACC 305, 372, or 380. These are the prerequisite classes to the graduate classes that will take the place of ACC 308, 374, and 383.

Classes During Senior Year

In the five year program, students will take three graduate classes during their senior year. These three classes will count toward the bachelor’s degree. Students should note that requirements for graduate classes are more rigorous.

  • ACC 545 Advanced Topics in Accounting Theory
    • In place of ACC 308; prerequisite ACC 305
  • ACC 550 Advanced Auditing Theory
    • In place of ACC 374; prerequisite: ACC 372
  • ACC 551 Tax Treatment of Corporations and Partnerships
    • In place of ACC 383; prerequisite: ACC 380

These classes are offered every quarter, except summer. Therefore, students may choose the quarter in which they want to enroll, provided that they meet the prerequisite. Accountancy Honors students, please contact us about class scheduling.

Final Quarter of Senior Year

After the bachelor's degree is completed, students must petition for formal admission into the graduate school of business. The bachelor's degree must be posted to the transcript in order to be admitted. The admission criteria are as follows:

  • Completion of the Bachelor of Science in business with a major in accountancy
  • Minimum overall GPA of 3.2
  • Minimum accounting GPA of 3.0

After the three classes during the bachelor’s degree, students take nine additional graduate classes to complete the Master of Accountancy.

Tuition

The three graduate classes taken while earning a bachelor's degree are billed at the undergraduate tuition rate. The nine graduate classes taken after the bachelor's degree are billed at the graduate tuition rate. For current tuition rates, go to studentaccounts.depaul.edu.

DePaul alumni receive a Double Demon Scholarship, which provides 25 percent off tuition while pursuing a graduate degree from Kellstadt. For students in this program, the scholarship becomes effective when officially admitted to the graduate program.
